G.T. & S. GREY
My grandparents (Gordon and Sally) set up the farm business in the 1960's with a small pig herd. My parents (Martin and Jenny) joined the partnership in the 1980's and the herd expanded to 3000 pigs by the year 2000 as well as introducing beef cattle. In 2002, the rearing of cattle became the main focus and all the pigs were sold. I am the 3rd generation of the Grey family to work on the farm.
We have around 600 Aberdeen Angus steers' on the farm at a time. They are bought as 3 week old calves and reared until they are fit for slaughter at 20-22 months. We farm 110 hectares of which 28 is rented. The majority of the land is grass grown to graze and make silage for winter feeds. We also grow 20 hectares of forage maize which is harvested for winter food.
